20th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony Near Your Carmel Valley Home

The event begins at 4:30pm and the holiday tree will be lit at 5:15pm.
This traditional festive party wouldn’t be complete without holiday treats and drinks so bring an appetite for delights! You’ll also enjoy traditional holiday caroling to put everyone in a merry mood. Come out and mingle with your community, enjoying the tree lighting ceremony, complimentary refreshments, and caroling. Santa Joins in Some Carmel Valley Home Town Fun

The Ocean Air Recreation Council and the City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department is sponsoring an event near your Carmel Valley home to allow your family the opportunity to participate in a “Morning of Giving” on Saturday, December 3rd. Veterans Group Offers Warmth Near Your Carmel Valley Home

Carmel Valley resident Gil Field and his group, San Diego Veterans for Peace (SDVFP) have advanced necessary improvement in the quality of life for hundreds of homeless people in downtown San Diego, many of whom served in combat. Near your Carmel Valley home, this impressive non-profit community organization has begun its second year of the “Compassion Campaign” which is led by a few sympathetic and dedicated veterans. The campaign provides sleeping bag sets and waterproof gear to San Diego’s homeless population. If you live in Carmel Valley, you will be proud to know that SDVFP members visit the homeless population in San Diego about twice a month handing out 50 sleep sets, each consisting of a sleeping bag, a waterproof stuff sack, and a heavy-duty plastic poncho.

The campaign raised enough funds last year to deliver 75 sets to homeless people staying in several locations downtown. Since SDVFP is dedicated to helping veterans, and since 30-40% of San Diego’s homeless are veterans, the group could not ignore their impulse for compassionate service towards this vulnerable group. The impact of SDVFP’s contribution to their homeless neighbors has been great and the gratitude of each recipient of a sleep sets is so immense that the “Compassion Campaign” is now also handing out winter clothing and hopes this year to beat its first year fundraising total of $18,000.
