This Park and Recreation Center has such outstanding amenities and facilities that you may want to spend a whole day there enjoying all it has to offer. Sitting on an 18.8 acre site, and using 13 acres, the Carmel Valley Community Park houses a Recreation Building that includes 1 Arts, Games & Crafts room and a meeting room with attached kitchen. The 11,000 square foot gymnasium has an available drop curtain to divide it for simultaneous events. The swimming portion includes 1 large pool with 0” depth entry, a small pool with a play structure for younger children and a learn-to-swim/slide receiving pool, as well as a Water Slide Tower with 2 tubes, 1 open and 1 enclosed. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy 2 baseball/softball/soccer or multi-purpose fields with nighttime lighting. There are also 4 lighted tennis courts and an outdoor basketball court as well as an outdoor fitness area as well, an open grass play area.

Enjoy lunch and family gatherings outdoors on the lawn picnic area or at the plaza picnic area. Kids and parents will appreciate the tot lot for youth to age 12 but play structures are not only for kids at CVCP but there is also a play structure for teens. Santa Joins in Some Carmel Valley Home Town Fun

The Ocean Air Recreation Council and the City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department is sponsoring an event near your Carmel Valley home to allow your family the opportunity to participate in a “Morning of Giving” on Saturday, December 3rd. If you live near Carmel Valley, you can bring unwrapped toys and non-perishable food anytime between now and December 3rd to support the San Diego Toys for Tots and San Diego Food Bank.
With your donation you will receive four tickets to the annual Pancake Breakfast, held at the Ocean Air Recreation Center, located at 4770 Fairport Way. The breakfast will be served on December 3rd from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The breakfast fun will also include plenty of activity with arts & crafts, face painting, music, and games and even a visit from Santa. Veterans Group Offers Warmth Near Your Carmel Valley Home

Carmel Valley resident Gil Field and his group, San Diego Veterans for Peace (SDVFP) have advanced necessary improvement in the quality of life for hundreds of homeless people in downtown San Diego, many of whom served in combat. Near your Carmel Valley home, this impressive non-profit community organization has begun its second year of the “Compassion Campaign” which is led by a few sympathetic and dedicated veterans. The campaign provides sleeping bag sets and waterproof gear to San Diego’s homeless population. If you live in Carmel Valley, you will be proud to know that SDVFP members visit the homeless population in San Diego about twice a month handing out 50 sleep sets, each consisting of a sleeping bag, a waterproof stuff sack, and a heavy-duty plastic poncho.

The campaign raised enough funds last year to deliver 75 sets to homeless people staying in several locations downtown. Since SDVFP is dedicated to helping veterans, and since 30-40% of San Diego’s homeless are veterans, the group could not ignore their impulse for compassionate service towards this vulnerable group. The impact of SDVFP’s contribution to their homeless neighbors has been great and the gratitude of each recipient of a sleep sets is so immense that the “Compassion Campaign” is now also handing out winter clothing and hopes this year to beat its first year fundraising total of $18,000.
